Couple celebrates 60 years

Larry and Lila Logan of Ponca City, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on November 28th, 2020 with a dinner party at the Rusty Barrel Supper Club with their immediate family present: son Kirby Logan, wife Denise and granddaughter Baylee of Kildare; daughter Michele Logan of Ponca City, their grandson Shane Logan and significant other Kelsey Rowe of Kaw City; and grandson Garett Logan and wife Katie, of Miami, OK.

Larry and the former Lila Herde were married Nov. 26th, 1960 at the First Christian church in Billings. They made their first home in Enid. Larry worked as an employee of Hackney Iron and Steel and Vance Air Force Base in Enid. Then for Southwestern Bell Telephone as an unlocated lineman. He also worked for Logan Oil Company of Garber with his father George. Larry worked part time for the Garber Police Department and Garber Public School System. He attended Northern Oklahoma College, and graduated Northwestern Oklahoma State College in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement and a minor in psychology. His interest in law enforcement led him to apply to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. He graduated from the 22nd academy in 1967 and was assigned to Boise City. In 1971, he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant and transferred to Perry and later relocated to Ponca City. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and was assigned as the director of the OHP training center in Oklahoma City. He commuted while his family remained in Ponca City. He relocated back to Ponca City and retired from the OHP in 1986. At that time he accepted appointment as chief of the Ponca City Police Department which he held until retirement in 1990. He also worked with Oklahoma Gas and Electric’s Sooner Plant managing their security.

Lila graduated from Billings High School and Beach’s Beauty College. She worked part time for Twila’s Beauty Shop in Garber, and later, as a receptionist for Dr. George Soper. After the couple moved to Boise City, Lila worked for F & G Concrete and Construction Company and then for the law firm of Loofenburrow and Loofenburrow. In Ponca City she worked for the law firms of Berry and Collins, as well as, Burdick and Clark. She took a position as court bailiff for the Kay County District Court. She then moved to a position in the Kay County Court Clerks office. She retired as chief deputy court clerk in 2009 after 35 years of service with the Kay County court system.

Larry and Lila both enjoy being active and having fun fishing, camping, and spending time with family and friends.
