Sticking with ERIC, Georgia finds 432K outdated voter registrations

While nine Republican-led states have recently quit the voter accuracy organization called ERIC, Georgia election officials say the numbers tell the story: It’s working. ERIC’s information has resulted in 432,000 Georgia voter registrations canceled or made inactive during the past two years because they moved or died, according to data provided by the secretary of state’s office in response to a request from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Florida faces major hurricane threat as Idalia strengthens

Tropical Storm Idalia is set to strengthen as it heads north through the Gulf of Mexico, threatening to strike Florida’s west coast Wednesday as a tree-snapping major hurricane. Idalia’s winds held at 65 miles (105 kilometers) per hour and are forecast to reach Category 3 strength at 115 mph as the storm makes landfall Wednesday after hitting western Cuba, the U.S.
