Track athletes compete in regional
PONCA CITY track athletes qualified for the Class 6A State Track and Field meet in five events. Those who will be competing at the state and their events include, from left, Jace Schneeberger, 800 and 1600 relay; Burton Miner, 3,200 meter run; Victor Morfin, high jump, 800 and 1600 relay; Luke Beiergrohslein, 800 and 1600 relay; and Aven Hobbs, 400 run, 800 relay and 1600 relay. The State Meet will be Friday and Saturday in Yukon and the athletes earned their spots in the meet at last Saturday’s regional in Broken Arrow. Steve McHenry is the Ponca City boys track coach and Brad Parent is the girls track coach.
The Ponca City varsity track teams participated in the Class 6A Regional Track Meet Saturday in Broken Arrow.
Five members of the boys team qualified in five events for this week’s State Meet at Yukon. Aven Hobbs was third in the 400-meter run, Victor Morfin was third in the high jump, Burton Miner was third in the 3,200-meter run, the 4x400 relay team finished second and the 4x200 relay team finished 4th. Hobbs, Morfin, Luke Beiergrohslein and Jace Schneeberger are the runners in both relay teams.
None of the girls team qualified for the state.
Ponca City was fifth on the boys side with 51 points. Broken Arrow won the boys team title with 219 points ahead of second place Owasso’s 133 points. Ponca City’s girls were eighth with 6 points. Broken Arrow won the girls’ team title with 157 points to secondplace Bartlesville’s 104.
