MOORE -- The Southmoore SaberCats scored one run in the bottom of the ninth inning Monday to defeat the Ponca City Wildcats 3-2 in a district baseball game.

Ponca City had scored first with a run in the third inning. Southmoore tied the score with a run in the fourth. The Wildcats took a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh only to have Southmoore retaliate with a run in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.

Ponca City outhit Southmoore 6-5. Brody Wicker and Colton Jones each had two hits and Titan Bute and Grant Harmon each had one hit. One of Wicker’s hits was a double.

Wicker was the starting pitcher for Ponca City. He pitched five innings and allowed two hits and no earned runs, while striking out nine and walking three. Hayden LeClair pitched the final three and twothirds innings, giving up three hits and two earned runs. LeClair struck out two and walked three.

Harmon started off Ponca City’s one-run third inning with a single. Harmon stole second and moved to third on a single by Jones. He scored on an error on a throw to third base.

Jacob Leonard drew a one-out walk in the seventh inning. He moved to second as Isaiah Branstetter was hit by a pitch. Wicker singled and Leonard scored on the throw into the infield.

Three walks, with two being intentional, led to the SaberCats winning run in the ninth inning. A line drive single to left field drove home the game winning tally.

The two teams were scheduled to play on Tuesday night at the Po-Hi baseball field.
