Baseball Wildcats lose close game

The Ponca City Wildcats lost their second game with Southmoore in two nights Tuesday, with Southmoore defeating the Wildcats 3-0.

Monday, the Wildcats lost a 3-2 decision to Southmoore. In a game played Tuesday at the Po-Hi baseball field, Southmoore scored once in the third inning and then put icing on the cake with two more runs in the sixth inning. Southmoore outhit Ponca City 4-3.

Aidan Howard was the starting pitcher for Ponca City. He pitched five and two-thirds innings before being relieved by Titan Bute, who pitched the final one and one-third frames. Howard gave up four hits and one earned run, striking out six and walking two. Bute didn’t allow a hit or run and walked two while striking out one.

Bute, Isaiah Branstetter and Grant Harmon had Ponca City’s hits.

Ponca City had a threat going in the third inning when Branstetter and Harmon led off with back-to-back singles, but did not score. The Wildcats also loaded the bases with walks in the seventh, but again were unable to score.

The loss was the ninth in a row for Ponca City, with most of the losses being close ones.

Next on the schedule in a Thursday game against Edmond Santa Fe, a Friday game against Edmond Memorial and a Saturday game against Mustang, all in Enid.
