Editor,

I do not think it is necessary or wise to change Oklahoma Election laws. Doing so could bring a trend that would make ours as nutty and unmanageable as some of the other states. Elections are meant to be correct — not necessarily convenient.

Our elections are legal and accurate with prompt results. Workers are well trained and both political parties are involved throughout. Machines are tested regularly, and votes are backed up by paper ballots with continuous possession and required retention.

Dates of the elections are known far in advance so PLAN, as you would for any other appointment. If you foresee a conflict, request an absentee ballot, complete it carefully, and return it. Eligibility will be verified and vote counted as others are.

For last-minute needs, early voting time is provided — both a working day and a weekend day. Not a place in the county is too far to travel, compared to a rock concert or ball game, and voting is much more important.

Oklahoma elections are among the best in the nation. Let’s leave them alone.
