John Dennis “JD” Howe, 42, of Arkansas City, Kansas, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2022, at his home.

Born July 14, 1980, in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Maurice and Cleta (Downen) Howe. He was raised and received his education in Burden. After school, JD lived and worked in various places all over the country. He was a hi-low operator for a charcoal factory in Chetopa, helped with the tornado rescue efforts in Joplin, Missouri, and helped with construction on the Burden school. He also worked as a cook in diners all over the country, including North Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, and Kansas. In 2016, JD returned to the Winfield area to help care for his parents. In recent years, he worked as a handyman in the Arkansas City area.

JD was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball. He was also a fan of the New York Yankees baseball, the San Francisco 49ers football, and University of Kansas basketball.

His family includes his children, Warren Howe, Anastasia Mercy; Derek Keith, Joel Oakley, Desiree Oakley, Kayla Oakley, Reese Hainey, and Logan; his brother, Rodney Mann and wife Barri; his sister Kim Mann; his feline companion, Linus; and the mother of his first born child Kimberly Kirchner. JD was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 2, 2022, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at the Ponca Tribe Cemetery in White Eagle, Oklahoma. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.

A memorial has been established in JD’s name for the Ponca Tribe. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
