Apr. 17—OAKLAND, Calif. — With a chance to close out their limited history at the Oakland Coliseum with a winning record and something they’ve been chasing in the present, the Cardinals let a lead slip from them in the middle of the game.

PHILADELPHIA — This was one of the Phillies’ best offensive nights of the season, and it almost went to waste because of a bullpen implosion. They had a comfortable 7-1 lead entering the eighth inning, when Gregory Soto took the ball from Yunior Marte. Soto allowed three straight singles to load the bases, a sac fly and two walks (one of which scored another run).

The Ponca City Wildcats baseball team has lost its share of close games this season. Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Tulsa Bishop Kelley joins the list.

It was a long night for Ponca City’s varsity soccer teams in matches Tuesday at Sullins Stadium. The girls varsity lost a 10-0 decision and the boys were beaten 5-0.

NEW ORLEANS — D’Angelo Russell walked to the bench in the first quarter, goading the New Orleans crowd to jeer. The Lakers guard had just gotten tangled up with Pelicans’ fan favorite and All-NBA pest Jose Alvarado, the two players both being called for technical fouls.

Seventeen soccer seniors were honored Tuesday night in Senior Night festivities in connection with matches with Norman North. Seniors on the girls team recognized were Captain Sanaya Rabb, Captain Adrina Gilbert, Allison Officer, Reanna Simpson, Kyra Allison, DiDi DeLaGarza and Kimberly Hamlin.

DALLAS — On the final Sunday, in a game that meant absolutely nothing to the Dallas Mavericks’ playoff seeding, Luka Doncic saw his MVP votes increase as his team’s backups lost to Oklahoma City by 49 points.
