The funds will provide immediate assistance to communities affected by the tornadoes that occurred across the state this week, including meals, supplies, health services and shelters.

United CAP Annual Report 2023

United Community Action Program, Inc. continues federal and state programs that support North Central Oklahoma. According to Executive Director Johnny Bryant, United CAP is honored to be involved in the five-county area. “With continued effort and in coordination with our communities and partners, vulnerable individuals and families have a chance at a brighter economic tomorrow.” Highlights of program activities for 2023 are shared below: The Early Head Start Program served 47 pregnant women and 509 children, newborn to 36 months. Enrollment is open year-round. The Head Start Program served 680 three and four-year-old children. During the year, 80% of enrolled children received medical services and 10.9% of preschool children received disability services.

4th Annual Unleashed Poker Run a hit

Northern Oklahoma Humane Society held their 4th Annual Unleashed Poker Run on Saturday, May 4. As many know, this benefit ride is held annually and stands as one of the humane society’s largest fundraisers of the year. Because they run solely of the donations and charity of the community, fundraisers such as this one are an excellent way to raise both money and awareness for the needs of the humane society and is a prominent lifeline for the shelter.

World-renowned broadcast journalist Mike Boettcher will return to Ponca City Friday, May 17, to deliver remarks and answer questions in a fundraiser for the Po-Hi Alumni Hall of Fame Endowment Fund. The upcoming “Evening with Mike Boettcher” will give attendees an unvarnished look into war correspondence and terrorism investigation.

Next 1 Up addresses mental health, hygiene in Ponca City schools

There is a new spirit of volunteerism and community support in the Ponca community. From the Trailblazers Rotary Club to Ponca City Main Street, many younger generations are seeking to make a difference locally. One of the most recent is Next 1 Up, an organization that is looking to meet the needs of school students in hygiene and mental health and help to make Ponca a better place for the youngest generations within the schools.
