FAIRFAX -- The Woodland Cougars took charge early and went on to post a 50-0 victory over the Newkirk Tigers in a nondistrict contest Friday night.

Woodland’s Nate Lockert took the opening kickoff and raced 90 yards to score the game’s first touchdown.

It proved to quite a night for Lockert, Woodland’s senior quarterback. He ran the ball 11 times for 105 yards. He accounted for 271 total yards. He had two rushing touchdowns and one touchdown through the air. In addition to the 90-yard kickoff return he returned a punt for 62 yards for a touchdown. All of these numbers came in the first half as he didn’t see second half action.

Running back Jake Kennedy had one rushing touchdown and gained 110 yards rushing, Mason Dysart had one rushing touchdown and wide receiver Trey Reese had 35 rushing yards.

Woodland led 42-0 at the half and Coach Casey Goad was able to play his bench in the second half.

“Our offensive linemen had a clean game and the receivers blocked well,” Goad said about his team’s effort. “Newkirk Coach (Eddy) Scott used to coach here and that motivated our guys. They wanted to get a win againstt him.”

Newkirk had a drive into Woodland territory late in the second quarter, but was unable to covert it into points.

Woodland is now 2-0 after a 34-30 win a week ago against Oklahoma Union. Newkirk is now 0-2 having lost in the opening week to Tonkawa.
