After a 13-day layoff, the Ponca City Wildcats jumped back into action Friday night in good shape by posting a 75-48 victory over the U. S. Grant Generals.

In a game in Po-Hi’s Robson Field House, the Wildcats started pulling away in the first quarter and led throughout the contest.

It was a good night for Ponca City teams as the the Wildcats’ game followed a contest in which the Ponca City Lady Cats’ junior varsity handily defeated Grant’s varsity 47-17.

In the boys’ contest Ponca City scored 22 points in the first quarter and led at the end 22-15.  The Wildcats held Grant to four points in the second quarter and established a lot of distance between themselves and the visitors. The score was 42-19 at the half.  U. S. Grant came back to score 18 points in the third quarter and was able to cut two off of the Ponca City margin. But the Wildcats still ed 58-37 at the end of the period.

Justin Thompson led Ponca City’s scoring effort with 20 points.  Among his points were four baskets from behind the three-point arc.  Also hitting four three-pointers was Steven Faulkner who wound up with 17 points. Anthony Gazaway and Luke Seals each had 11 points the Wildcats.

The girls game was an opportunity for some of the Lady Cats bench players to get lots of playing time.  Playing against U. S. Grant’s varsity, the Lady Cats rolled to a 13-2 lead by the end of the first quarter and then led 28-5 at the half.  Grant did not score in the third quarter and Ponca City’s lead was 39-5.  Grant scored 12 of their 17 points in the final period.

Kualani Kenneth finished with 12 points to lead Ponca City’s scoring.
