WARR ACRES -- Both the Ponca City Lady Cat and the Wildcat basketball teams lost games at Putnam City North Tuesday night.

In the girls game it was Putnam North winning 44-33 and the Ponca City boys lost to North 59-37.

The Lady Cats jumped out early and led at one time in the first quarter 8-2. But then Putnam North went on a 7-0 run and led at the end of the quarter 9-8. The Lady Panthers added five more points before Ponca City could score. After that point the Lady Cats trailed in the game.

North led 20-15 at the half and 28-20 after three quarters. Ponca City scored 13 points in the fourth quarter, their most productive period of the game. However, their opponents scored 16 and added to their lead by games’ end.

Emma Gertken led the Ponca City scoring with 13 points. Others with points included Kyra Allison with 8; Allison Duncan, 4; Calissa Collins, 3; Sarah Dingus, 2; Kaytum Lively, 2; and Lainie George, 1.

Putnam City North led throughout the boys game. The Panthers led 34-20 at the half and outscored the Wildcats 25-17 in the second half. Ponca City switched to a zone defense in the second quarter and the defense change slowed down the fast-breaking Panthers somewhat.

Luke Hollis led Ponca City scoring with 13 points. Other scorers included Mason Meador, playing in his first game of the season, 10 points; Tay Moore, 7; Matthew Shoup, 5.

Both Ponca City teams are 0-3 on the young season. Thursday both were scheduled to play in tournament settings. The Lady Cats were scheduled to play McAlester at 1 p.m. in the Tahlequah Invitational and the Wildcats were scheduled to play Tulsa Webster at 2:30 p.m. in the Blue Sky Bank Cleveland Invitational in Cleveland.
