Softball Lady Cats Sweep Sapulpa

The Ponca City Lady Cats scored 28 runs Thursday night in winning a doubleheader over Sapulpa at the West Middle School softball field.

Ponca City topped the visitors 6-2 in the opener and then busted loose for 22 runs in the nightcap winning 22-8.

In the second game, Alex Zimmerschied and Madelyn Blackstar each had a big game with two hits and four runs batted in.

Ponca City scored four runs in the first inning and then erupted for 11 in the second inning. The Lady Cats added one in the third and six in the fourth inning. Sapulpa scored four in the third and four in the fourth.

Savannah Clark was the winning pitcher in the Lady Cat blowout. She pitched five innings and gave up 10 hits and four earned runs while striking out five and walking four.

Besides the output from Madelyn Blackstar and Zimmerschied, others who had two hits apiece were Savannah Clark, Margaret Blackstar and Taylor McMartin. With one RBI each were Savannah Clark, Taylin Fry, Margaret Blackstar, McMartin and Haley Swinford.

With doubles in the game were Margaret Blackstar, Savannah Clark, McMartin and Zimmerschied. Margaret Blackstar, Madelyn Blackstar and Zimmerschied each had a triple.

Ponca City scored three runs in the first inning of the opening game and never trailed. The Lady Cats picked up one more run in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Sapulpa scored one in the first and one in the fourth.

Libby Clark went the distance in the pitchers’ circle for Ponca City. She pitched seven innings allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out eight and walking four.

The Lady Cats had six hits, with Fry getting two, Margaret Blackstar two, McMartin one and Tori Freeman, one. Margaret Blackstar, McMartin and Freeman each had an RBI and Margaret Blackstar and Freeman each had a double.

The two wins boosts the Lady Cats record to 8-17. Two games with Shawnee in Shawnee are on Saturday’s schedule.
