Always a threat to capture the conference title, the Cowley College volleyball team was recently picked second out of 11 teams in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Eastern Division pre-season selections. The Lady Tigers were picked behind only Johnson County.

With seven sophomores and eight freshmen on the roster, Cowley head coach Steven Gream has a nice mix of veteran players to go along with the newcomers.

“The KJCCC is a very competitive conference that has been a volleyball powerhouse in the national rankings each year,” Gream said. “We are honored to have been selected high in the coaches predicted order of finish in such a tough league. That said, it is not where you start but where you finish. So, we need to be focused and stay hungry to improve each day. With the KJCCC we have to bring our ‘A’ game each and every night and we know that the strong competition will make us a stronger program in this new season.”

Cowley will open the season Saturday at the Seminole State Triangular in Seminole, OK.

Jayhawk East Predicted Order of Finish: (1) Johnson County; (2) Cowley; (3) Highland; (4) Cloud County; (5) Kansas City; (6) Coffeyville; (7) Fort Scott; (8) Neosho County; (9) Allen; (10) Labette; (11) Hesston.
