It took extra innings Monday night, but the Ponca City Lady Cats put a mark in the win column with a 9-8 victory over Bartlesville at the West Middle School softball field.

A bases-loaded single by Taylor McMartin drove home the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Monday’s contest was an exciting one throughout with each team scoring big runs.

Ponca City scored three runs in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead. The Lady Cats added three more in the second to build a 6-0 advantage and appeared to be on their way to a lop-sided win. But Bartlesville scored three in the third and then took the lead with five in the fourth. The Lady Cats rebounded from the 8-6 deficit and scored two in the fourth to tie the score at 8-8. There was no scoring in the fifth through seventh innings forcing the game to go to extra innings.

Bartlesville failed to score in the top of the eighth and in the bottom of the inning Ponca City loaded the bases. McMartin singled and the game was over.

Savannah Clark had a big game at the plate, with four hits in five trips. She drove home one run. With two hits each were Margaret Blackstar and Libby Clark. Madelyn Blackstar, Allanah Florez and McMartin each had one hit. McMartin led with three RBI’s, Margaret Blackstar had 2 RBIs and Savannah Clark, Libby Clark and Florez each had one RBI.
