Lady Cats fall to Shawnee

SHAWNEE -- The Ponca City Lady Cats lost two games on Saturday to Shawnee in a softball doubleheader. Shawnee won the first 13-0 and then came back to win the second 8-0.

In the opening game, Ponca City officially was the home team. Shawnee took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and expanded that to 6-0 in the third. The Lady Wolves added three in the fourth and four in the seventh.

Ponca City had six hits. Madelyn Blackstar led the Lady Cats with three hits. Savannah Clark, Margaret Blackstar and Alex Zimmerschied each had one.

Savannah Clark was the starting pitcher for Ponca City. She toiled six innings allowing 17 hits and 11 earned runs while striking out four.

In the second game, Shawnee scored three runs in the first, one in the third, two in the fourth and two in the fifth for the 8-0 victory.

Libby Clark pitched for the Lady Cats, giving up nine hits and eight earned runs in six innings. She struck out four and walked four.

Ponca City had only one hit, with was picked up by Margaret Blackstar.

The losses drops Ponca City’s record to 8-19. The Lady Cats were scheduled to play Bartlesville Monday and Tulsa Edison on Tuesday. Both games were scheduled to be played at the West Middle School field.
