Even on their less-thanbest nights during a winning streak that lasted more than two weeks, the Celtics found ways to win. They overcame a late double-digit deficit, fueled by their bench, to beat the Thunder last week. Shorthanded several times due to injuries, they figured it out.

But the magic ran out on Monday night in Chicago.

All good things come to an end eventually, and the Celtics were due for a bad night. A rare, poor 3-point shooting night, consistent effort issues on defense, and off nights from several of their regulars – including Al Horford’s worst offensive night in recent memory. The C’s couldn’t overcome any of it as their struggles continued against the Bulls with a 121107 loss, snapping their ninegame winning streak.

The first-place Celtics (134) have only lost two games this season in regulation, and both have come against the Bulls in Chicago. The other two losses have been in overtime to the Cavaliers.

Jayson Tatum had 28 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, Jaylen Brown posted 25 points and Malcolm Brogdon scored 21 points with six assists as he ignited several late comeback attempts, but the Bulls had every counterpunch down the stretch.

The Celtics launched 50 3-pointers – their secondmost of the season – but only connected on 19.
