Once again there were two very different games played at Robson Field House on Tuesday this time with Enid as the opposition.
The Lady Cats had a very easy 86-28 victory over the Enid Pacers.  The Wildcats also won, but there wasn’t anything easy at all in their 60-57 victory.
It was Senior Night at Robson and the double victory was especially sweet to the home crowd.
In the girls game, the Lady Cats led at one point in the first quarter 13-7.  But then they went on a 39-0 run to build their lead to 52-7 before Enid scored again.  Ponca City’s defense continually stymied the Pacers offensive efforts and most of the points scored in the 39-0 run were scored in transition.
Senior Ryley Beard had a hot hand, especially in the first quarter when she scored 15. Beard finished with 22 to lead the Lady Cats in scoring. Also scoring in double figures were Ashlynn Fincher, with 15 and senior Baylee Fincher with 13.
In the boys game, the Wildcats got off to an early lead and were ahead 17-12 at the end of the first period.  At one point in the second quarter Ponca City had a nine point advantage, but it didn’t take Enid long to close the gap.  The Wildcats led 32-30 at the half and the game remained very close to the end.  The score was 42-42 at the end of the third quarter.
With the game on the line in the closing seconds Ponca City’s Collin Crandall hit three out of four free throw attempts to give his team the final three-point edge.
Anthony Gazaway was the leading Wildcat scorer with 17 points.  Marshawn Webb had 11.
It was the second time the Enid and Ponca City boys had played a nail biter.  Enid defeated the Wildcats by a point in the Enid Holiday Tournament, winning on a last second three-point basket.
The two Po-Hi teams will be back in action Friday with games at Bishop McGuinness in Oklahoma City.
