The No. 24-ranked Hutchinson Community College Lady Blue Dragons used a huge third quarter in its game at Cowley College on Wednesday to turn what was a close game into a route. Hutchinson out-scored the Lady Tigers 29-10 in the third quarter and cruised to the 84-61 road win.

Trailing just 19-18 at the end of the first quarter, Cowley went just 2-of-18 in the second quarter as Hutchinson built a 34-26 halftime lead.

The Lady Tigers cold shooting carried over to the third quarter as they went 2-of-19 in the third and Hutchinson made 10-of-12 shots in the quarter as the game got out of hand in a hurry. The Lady Blue Dragons used a 25-2 run to lead 61-31.

The Lady Blue Dragons are now 6-2 overall and 5-2 in the Jayhawk West.

Cowley’s three-game win streak was snapped as they are now 5-4 overall and 3-4 in the Jayhawk East.

Cowley freshman Martyna Kowalska finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while freshman Baylee Fincher added 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists. However, sophomores Milena Fromming and Seanna Boltz combined to make only 2-of-23 attempts from the floor as Cowley shot just 28.2 percent for the game.

Kayhla Adams led four Lady Blue Dragon players in dou ble figures with 17 points as Hutchinson shot 51.7 percent from the floor and went 10-of-17 from three-point range.

Cowley will look to bounce back when they play at Pratt Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Pratt is 2-5 overall and 1-5 in the Jayhawk West.
