The 2020-2021 basketball season for Ponca City High School teams will officially get underway Thursday in a tournament in Ada.

All sports activities, including practices were suspended by Ponca City Public Schools at the beginning of December due to COVID-19 protocols and, along with other winter sports, basketball was put on hold. The suspension of activities was lifted just before Christmas and, for now at least, games will be permitted.

The Wildcats and Lady Cats are scheduled to participate in the Chickasaw Nation East Central Oklahoma Tournament in Ada. Action is set to begin on Thursday. The Lady Cats will play first in a game against Westmoore at 1 p.m. Later, the Wildcats are scheduled to play the Oklahoma City Storm at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. If the girls team wins, it will play the winner of a game between Durant and Norman North at 4 p.m. Friday. If it loses it will play the loser of Durant-Norman North at 1 p.m. Friday. Should the Ponca City boys defeat the Storm, they would play the winner of a game between Ada and Harrah at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. A loss on Thursday would put the Wildcats in a 2:30 p.m. game Friday with the loser of Ada-Harrah.

The roster of teams in the girls bracket includes Ponca City, Westmoore, Durant, Norman North, Ada, Lawton Eisenhower, Ardmore and Harrah. In the boys tournament are teams from Ponca City, Oklahoma City Storm, Ada, Harrah, Durant, Shawnee, Lawton Eisenhower and Ardmore.
