Four area teams are still in the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association playoffs going into the third round. All four are in Class A and three are from District A-6.

The four include No. 5 ranked Pawnee and No. 9 ranked Tonkawa. The other two are Woodland and Morrison. Pawnee is scheduled to host Colcord, Tonkawa is scheduled for a road game at Thomas, Morrison is scheduled to play at Wewoka and Woodland is set to play at Gore.

TONKAWA AT THOMAS

All games in the playoffs involve very good teams at this stage in the process. Tonkawa is scheduled to play at highly ranked Thomas. In fact Thomas is ranked No. 6, while the Bucs are No. 9. Thomas has a 9-1 record and got to the third round with a 49-22 win over Cordell. The Terriers’ only defeat was to No. 2 ranked Cashion (28-7) in the second week of the season. Thomas has victories over Alva, Mooreland, Fairview, Hooker, Sayre, Merritt, Burns Flat-Dill City and Texhoma. The Bucs earned their spot in the third round with a 28-23 come-from-behind win over Dibble last week. Tonkawa’s record is 9-2, which includes victories over Newkirk, Blackwell, Crescent, Watonga, Oklahoma Christian Academy, Hinton, Oklahoma Bible, Stratford and Dibble. Like Thomas, the Bucs lost a game to Cashion (42-0). The other loss was to Perry.

COLCORD AT PAWNEE

Colcord is ranked No. 10 in Class A and will bring a 10-1 record into Friday’s game at Pawnee. The Hornets’ only loss came to Gore (39-15). Otherwise the Hornets have beaten Liberty, Afton, Wyandotte, Central Sallisaw, Warner, Talihina, Porter, Canadian, Stroud and Konawa. Pawnee is ranked No. 5 and has compiled an eight game winning streak to boost its record to 8-1. Since the Black Bears lost their opener to Washington, they have rolled through a schedule that includes wins over Mooreland, Okemah, Hominy, Woodland, Tulsa NOAH, Chouteau, Caney Valley and Quapaw. The question will be whether or not Colcord can stop the Bears’ formidable ground game.

WOODLAND AT GORE

The Woodland Cougars have flown under the radar almost all season to post an 11-1 record. They come into Friday’s game still unranked despite having a glittering record. They probably will be underdogs to Gore, which is unbeaten in eight games. The Pirates hold wins over Panama, Warner, Central of Sallisaw, Colcord, Porter, Hulbert, Canadian and Allen. Woodland’s only loss was to No. 5 ranked Pawnee in the fifth week of the year. The Cougars have beaten Oklahoma Union, Newkirk, Mooreland, Caney Valley, Morrison, Chouteau, Hominy, Chelsea, Oklahoma Christian Academy, Fairland and Commerce. The Cougars have been improving each week and would like nothing more than to move on the Class A’s next round.

MORRISON AT WEWOKA

The Morrison Wildcats are playoff tested, with many state championships and lots of deep runs in their history. This year’s unit is 9-2, but opponents should not overlook the Wildcats. The losses were to Oklahoma Christian School and Woodland. Wins have been over Kiefer, Porter, Chelsea, Warner, Caney Valley, Hominy, Chouteau, Wyandotte and Oklahoma Union. A game with Pawnee was not played due to COVID-19 concerns. Wewoka is 10-0 and has rolled up the score each week it has played. The closest anyone has come was Holdenville in the opening week of the season losing 33-12. Since then the Tigers have blasted Warner, Konawa, Mounds, Okemah, Liberty, Allen, Stroud, Savanna and Mounds again.
