As the Ponca Playhouse enters its 59th year as a community theater in Ponca City, the theater is also celebrating Ten Years in their Black Box location at 301 S. First Street. After years of practicing in the current building, board members led the Playhouse theater family into the next phase of the Playhouse life with a clean up, remodeling and continued work on the location The Playhouse now calls home. This remodeling effort included a foyer area, green rooms, ADA compliant restrooms and the black box theater area.
In addition to five regular shows every season, the Playhouse is proud to present something new: On the Spot Comedy Improv. In their third season, this cast of Ponca Playhouse regulars put on a live comedy show in the format of “Who’s Line is it Anyway?” the Saturday following each regular play. On the Spot performances begin later than normal at 9:00 p.m., and offer Adult comedy driven by the audience.
The Playhouse is home to a huge costume collection and prop room including wigs, hats and accessories, glassware, era appropriate electronics and all manner of accessories for theaters and parties. The Playhouse is a 120 seat theater including a reception/lobby area complete with TV/video capability and extra practice areas throughout the building. The Costume Shoppe and Prop Room have outfits and props available for historical rentals for sizes small (larger children) and up as well as the props. The theater is available for rental during non-showtimes for meetings, workshops and reunions. Please check with the box office on building rental availability.
