The Conoco Museum in Ponca City Oklahoma celebrates the history of Conoco Inc., from its beginnings as a kerosene distributor through to becoming an international energy empire.
The petroleum industry has shaped Ponca City and Conoco has played a significant part in this. When Conoco merged with Phillips Petroleum in 2002 to become ConocoPhillips, the new company commissioned two museums (one in each city) to tell the stories of each company up to the point of merger. This museum is not just of the company but of the people who created the company, and therefore also the city. These museums, in towns 70 miles apart were built and opened simultaneously.
