Here we go again. A strong, prominent woman in the political arena comes under attack for being too strong, too ambitious, having too big a role in her spouse’s campaign.
Dear Annie: My partner was made disabled last year and is confined to a wheelchair. At the moment, he is in the hospital and has been since last August. When he was in the spinal unit, I only saw him three days a week but would FaceTime every day. Now that he is closer to me, he wants me to be at his bedside seven days a week.
A conservative, to paraphrase and slightly alter Irving Kristol’s saying, is a liberal who has been mugged by reality -- especially by a reality that is plain to the vast bulk of ordinary people but remains inexplicably invisible to liberal intellectuals and politicians.
Watching Tim Scott’s announcement speech, I was struck by how differently I would have responded to his message 10 years ago. Dear Cheapskate: Oodles of Hotel Toiletries, Lawn Mower Agreement and an IRS Goof-up, Too! Lots of mail this week, but who’s complaining? Not me, that’s for sure. I love hearing from my readers, and when I can help out with an opinion, website or other solution to a problem, that makes it even better.
Dear Annie: I’m potentially facing an aggressive and lethal type of cancer (esophageal), for which I’m being biopsied next week. I’ve known about this for just a few weeks. My former pastor and his wife were my friends, though there’s been a noticeable distance in the last year. They helped me through my ex-hubby’s death, as I’d been caregiving for him for years and sharing a home. Then they helped my close friend while she was dying of cancer.
This has been the year for school choice all over the country. At least six additional states joined Arizona and Florida to give parents the funds to send their children to private and charter schools.
Shocked at the Pump! Yesterday I filled up at the gas station and I was shocked. Shocked! Cost to fill up? $87.12! I really haven’t been hiding under a rock.
Ron DeSantis apparently wants to be president. His pitch rests on the “Florida blueprint,” the stuff he’s done as the state’s governor. But the assumption that the American majority wants much of the DeSantis program is shaky. It’s not even clear that Floridians do.
