Richard Wayne Rawlings, 56, one-time Ponca City Resident, died May 24th in East Millinocket, Maine, after a lifelong battle with Diabetes.

Rick was born to Joyce C. Warren and Joseph N. Rawlings, Sr. in Washington, D.C.. on July 12th, 1963. He graduated from high school in 1980 from Montevideo High School in Penn Laird, VA. Rick moved to Ponca City in 1981 and worked at the Ponca City Country Club training as a chef.

He loved to cook and made a career of it. Moving to Las Vegas and landing a chef position before returning to Ponca City to manage the kitchen for the American Legion. It was during his first time in Ponca City that he met, found love and married Brenda Wood. They had to 2 beautiful children, Brandon and Ashley.

In 2003, Rick found love again with Brenda Lewin and moved to East Millinocket, Maine spending the next 10 years together till Brenda’s passing in 2013. With Brenda’s support Rick fought and beat cancer in 2010-11. It was complications with his diabetes that Rick could not overcome.

Rick is survived by his stepdaughter Sarah Ambrose of East Millinocket, Maine, son Brandon Rawlings of Tonkawa, OK, daughter Ashley and her husband John Youker of Muskogee, OK. Grandchildren Hayden, Wyatt, Cheyenne, October, Wynter, Taylor, Lane and expected soon, Remington. His brother Joseph Rawlings of Enid, OK, step sister Teresa Marsha Morrow-Bayless and family of Mound City, KS, step-father Donald J Warren of Ponca City, OK, his children’s mother Brenda Wood of Newkirk, OK, 2nd wife Tammy Clark of Ponca City, nephews Zachary and Joseph Rawlings of Stillwater, OK, nieces Sara Rawlings of Muskogee and Candice and her husband Travis McCauley & family of Winfield, KS, Rick had numerous cousins on both sides of the family and many beloved friends.

Rick was preceded in death by his 3rd wife Brenda Lewin of East Millinocket, Maine, his parents, Joyce and Joe, brother Michael, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins on both sides of the family. A graveside memorial service for Rick and his brother Mike will be held at noon Friday July 10th, at Resthaven Cemetery in Ponca City, OK.
