Lonny, You held onto me when you were born. You could go to mom and dad to your new home but didn’t. You wouldn’t go without me and I was too weak to leave so you stayed and wouldn’t let go of me.

In time my strength improved and we went home together. I held onto you as you left to return to our heavenly home. It isn’t my time but we are not far apart. You are still with me because I can tell you are with me in my heart.

Lonny Dale Pittman, 71, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2019, in Vancouver, WA. Lonny was born June 15, 1948, to Orval and Sonja Jaworsky-Pittman in the Ponca City hospital. He attended the First Lutheran School and West Junior High and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1967.

Larry excelled in football and wrestling helping the teams to the state runners-up position in both sports.

After high school he attended NOC in Tonkawa and received his associate’s degree. He then attended Northwestern State College in Alva and graduated in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in political science.

Upon graduation he entered the United States Marine Corp in Quantico, VA as a second lieutenant. He qualified as an expert marksman with the rifle and pistol. He then served in the infantry for the next four years and was honorably discharged in 1975. For most of Lonny’s adult life he worked as a long shoreman in Long Beach, CA and Kelso, WA., retiring in 2010.

His longtime friend and neighbor, Wayne Cranford, sent walnuts from Lonny’s childhood home which he grew into bonsai trees. Lonny had a passion for gardening and working in his yard. He also looked forward to his yearly phone call to his longtime friend Steve Schwanke on Aug. 15 to reminisce about the state of the brutal two-a-day football practices of the past. He also enjoyed wrestling with his pit bull terrier named Spot.

Lonny was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lee, and Bud (Robert Gary). He is survived by his twin brother Larry (Linda) of Claremore, OK. Nephews Larry Jr., of Claremore, Shawn (Becky) of Broken Arrow, and Jason Pittman (Julie) of Palatine, IL. Nieces Terre Cossey of Edmond, OK and Rebecca (Neil) Kwasigroch of Rolling Meadows, IL. Aunts Millie (Jay) Stafford of Ponca City, Annette Pittman of Prosper, TX, Irene Pittman of Del City, and Gwen Jaworsky of Oklahoma City.
