Kenneth Gene “KG” Sherron passed peacefully into his new Heavenly home, September 9, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. Kenny was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma on August 16, 1940 to Kenneth Carl “Bill” and Edna Gladys Rutherford Sherron. On June 1st, 1972, Kenny married Joyce Wynn, recently celebrating 48 years together.

Kenny attended Ponca City Public schools, graduating from Po-Hi in 1959. He was a member of Faith Tabernacle, serving alongside his wife as the children’s church pastor for almost 40 years, and as one of the church’s Elders.

He worked for the Ponca City Fire Department for 21 years. He was the first EMT instructor for the PCFD, retiring as Deputy Chief in 1984. After earning his degree in Early Education, Kenny taught Science for 5 years at Lincoln Elementary and 9 years at St. Mary’s Catholic School.

He had a love for spending time with his family, and playing, coaching, and watching baseball. He played for the High School baseball team and in 1959 served as co-captain. He was proud of this accomplishment. He loved anything that had to do with the outdoors. He loved science and nature, and delighted in teaching anyone interested in learning. He had a photographic memory, was very creative, a master builder who hand built his first home. He enjoyed grafting pecan trees for both family and friends. He mastered the primitive skills of tanning hides, finding and making arrowheads, bows and arrows, bow and hand drill fire starting, gourd rattle making and beading, and fishing.

Kenny also enjoyed working in his garden and hatching chickens, quail, turkey, pheasants, and other fowl in his homemade incubator that he was so proud of.

He was an avid beekeeper for over 60 years and was a charter member, serving as the President of North Central Oklahoma Beekeepers Association for several years, receiving awards for his beekeeping skills, including the Albert Lincoln Award, the Oklahoma Beekeeper of the Year in 2015.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Nancy, two brothers, Jim and Ron Sherron, one sister, Louise Heidlage.
