Katie Gant, of Ponca City, Ok passed away on April 1, 2020 at the age of 100.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday June 19 at Freewill Baptist Church, 1900 E Hubbard Rd.

She was born on December 11, 1919 to Harvey Lee Brown and Joyce Mae (Francy) Brown in Apperson, OK.

Her father staked a claim at Three Sands in the Oklahoma Land Run. She enjoyed telling this tale to her great grandchildren’s classes when they studied Oklahoma history.

Katie lived in the Apperson and Burbank area through her youth and later moved to Ponca City. She worked for a short time for Conoco and then Southwestern Bell (where she retired in 1976 after 30 years of service).

Katie was a long time member of The First Church of God and was currently a member of Freewill Baptist Church. Her faith was very important to her.

One of her hobbies included camping with friends and family. In her younger days she enjoyed gardening, she made the best fried okra. She loved all her family and friends dearly.

Katie’s final wish was to stay in her own home until she died. She was able to do this thanks to Precise Home Health Care.

Katie was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and sisters, her beloved husband, Loyd Gant and her only daughter Barbara Ann Leathers.

Survivors include grandchildren Richard M Leathers of Grove Ok and Terri Wiebe, and husband Loren currently residing in New Delhi, India. Also four great grandchildren: Alison Hill and husband Tyler of Oklahoma City, Madeline Couch and Husband Corbin of Godley Tx, Isabel (Izzy) Wiebe and Connor Wiebe, both of Seattle, WA. She also had one Great Great Grandson, Lucas Hill of Oklahoma City.

Katie celebrated her 100th birthday in December 2019 with a huge party attended by many friends, along with her nieces and nephews from all over the United States.
