Johnnie Marshall Wright, 89, passed from this life on Friday, Feb. 7, 2020, at the Renaissance Ponca City. A memorial service will be held at Woodlands Christian Church in Ponca City on Monday, Feb. 17 at 10 a.m. with David Spain (Norman) and Truman Ferguson (Ponca City) officiating. Internment will be at Ceres Cemetery in Ceres, OK.

Johnnie was born March 9, 1930, in Marland to Wilford and Isla (Andrews) Wright. He attended Rein school in the Bressie community and then moved to Red Rock where he graduated.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1948. He was assigned to Fitzsimmons Hospital in Denver, Colo. before he was transferred to Tokyo, Japan.

Johnnie married Molly Blew on May 14, 1950, and began working for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Ponca City. Later he was transferred to Norman. He and Molly joined the Norman Christian Church on July 30, 1961, They lived in Norman most of their married life.

He retired from Goodyear in 1969 and began working for L&S Wheel and Brake. He retired in 1994, after 24 years of service with them. Johnnie then became a driver for Meals on Wheels. They moved back to Ponca City in 2016.

Johnnie enjoyed playing golf, bowling on a league, and playing horseshoes. You always wanted to be on Uncle Johnnie’s team because he was very good at all games. He had the best laugh and a great smile. He loved to watch golf and football, especially the Oklahoma Sooners and Dallas Cowboys.

Johnnie is survived by his wife Molly, two sisters, Eula Don Freed of Claremore and Wilma (Willie) Foust of Ponca City. He also has numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Rusty, his parents, Wilford and Isla Wright, his brother, Irvin, two sisters, Mary Coffman and Othel Lynne (Bo) Haas-Goodwin.
