Jan Johnson Prough Rader was born Tempest Janet Johnson on August 8, 1938 to Galen and Tempest Johnson in Barber County, KS. The family moved to Cherryvale, KS. where Jan was baptized on November 23, 1947 at the age of 9. She graduated from high school and went on to attend Midwest Christian College in Oklahoma City.

She received her BA Degree in 1960. In 1957, Jan and Harold A. Prough (Hap) were married in Cherryvale, KS.

Together they raised their five children: Scott, Greg, Chris, Jonathon, and Angela Prough. Hap and Jan’s first ministry was with the Wellston, Oklahoma Christian Church. The Oklahoma Evangelizing Association then asked Jan and Hap to start a new church in Okmulgee: Town and Christian Church. This same organization then asked them to start a new church in Ponca City:

Eastern Heights Christian Church. Jan was employed for 23 years by the State of Oklahoma at the Ponca City Pioneer Woman Museum.

She also served as Regent of the Daughters of The American Revolution, Ponca City Chapter. Hap died in January of 2003 after 45 years of marriage. On November 7, 2008, Jan married Jerry D. Rader in Oklahoma City where they resided. Jerry’s first wife, Jo Ann Kneale, died in 2006.

To that union were born two children, Julie and Derek.

Jerry and Jan were very active members of Cherokee Hills Christian Church. Jerry was a huge gift to the entire family and they are beyond blessed to have him in their lives. Jan’s family wishes to thank Joanna Gary, Ponca City, who loved and helped so much with Greg Prough.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Abigail Prough; siblings, Oren and Wilbur Johnson.

Those left to cherish their memories are her husband Jerry; sister, Patricia Cline; sisters-in-law, Imalee Johnson and Pauline Johnson; as well as children and grandchildren from two blended families; Scott, Greg, Chris, Jonathon, Angela, Julie, and Derek; grandchildren, Alix, Lucy, Christian, Ian, Brach, Adler, Catherine, Yorke, Owen, Beckham, Crewe, Cait, Paul, Joel, Dana, J.D., Jessica, Esley, Samuel, and Daniel; as well as a host of other family members, church family, and friends.
