Dorothy Irene Baker was welcomed into the peace and presence of her Lord and Savior on September 20, 2021. She was born February 25, 1928, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Herbert T. Finney and Verga L. (Carter) Finney, and the first girl born into a family of seven children.

Dorothy was a graduate of Ponca City, Oklahoma High School and was married to Robert H. Baker, December 11, 1945, in Ponca City. A homemaker during her children’s younger days, she became the receptionist at the Tulsa Chamber of Commerce, welcoming visitors for many years. Dorothy was a very talented seamstress, an artist employing a wide variety of mediums, and the creator of many beautiful quilts and handmade items, which she shared generously with friends and family. As an active church member, Dorothy enjoyed preparing meals, singing in the choir, and serving on various committees within the church, including actively participating as a youth leader and working with the children.

Above all, Dorothy loved her family. She is survived by a daughter and son-inlaw, Linda and Trent Baggett of Sherman, Texas, and a son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Nancy Baker of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Her grandchildren, Travis (Alisha) Baggett of Melissa, TX; Colby (Kristen) Baggett of Whitesboro, TX; Summer Baggett (Michael) Love of Callisburg, TX; Nathan Baker of Oklahoma City OK; and Heather (Jason) Kendrick of Yukon, OK, were her pride and joy and she delighted in spending time with them, especially at her home on Lake Eufaula (OK). She has eight great-grandchildren and one greatgreat grandchild. Dorothy is survived by brothers Vernon Finney of Desert Palm Springs, CA, and Ted Finney of Lake Eufaula; she is also survived by two sisters, Helen Knight of Albany, NY, and Virginia Loney of Ponca City, OK, brother-in-law William Baker of Oklahoma City, OK, as well as a host of nieces and nephews from coast to coast.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Bob; her parents and two brothers, Curtis and Gordon Finney; brothers-in-law R. L. Knight and Gerald Loney; sisters-in-law Christine Finney, Mary Jo Finney and Kathryn Baker; mother and father-in-law Edith and Henry Baker; niece Lisa Finney and nephews Glenn Knight, and Christopher and David Finney. As she was “surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses” (Hebrews 12:1) in life, so she will be surrounded in her eternal home, singing Glory to God in the Highest!

A family service will be held October 2, 2021, in Ponca City. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make contribution to your favorite charity.
