Doris Marie Davis, better known as “Mema”, departed her loving family to be with our Lord and Savior on June 27th, 2021.

Doris was born in Madison, KS on June 19, 1934 to Charles and Velma Wescott. She grew up in Madison, KS with her parents and 8 other siblings.

Her family lived on a farm when she was young, and Doris gained a love for living off the farm. She had a love for all animals, but most important, she had a love for learning from and helping her mom with the family home and learning how to cook with the foods they grew. She became a fabulous cook and was known for gardening and canning foods and making anything and everything from scratch that you could imagine, especially pies and desserts. She loved cooking for her husband and children and grandchildren, and her entire family for gatherings and reunions. Her love for others was relevant in her cooking.

Doris met the love of her life, James Davis, in Madison, KS in 1949. The two married in 1951 and after a couple of moves between KS and OK chose to make a home for their family in Osage County near Ponca City, OK.

Jim and Doris had 3 children and began their over 70 wonderful years of marriage devoting themselves to working and farm life and raising their own children with virtues of hard work and dedication.

Doris and Jim worked a few different jobs through the years, even running their own restaurant named The Coffee Cup Cafe in Ponca City, but the work that brought them the most success and satisfaction was when they started their own lawn service company and worked together, spending their hours every day doing what they enjoyed doing the most, being together.

Their time working together afforded them even more opportunity to spend time traveling and experiencing the U.S. and other countries together, even road-tripping through Canada and Alaska. They became “snowbirds” in their 50’s, traveling to South Texas for the winter months for more than 30 years. They made many friends on their travels and loved to share their experiences with their family.

Doris was a loving and devoted wife and devoted “Mema” to all her family. If she met you once, she invited you to her home and she loved you forever and instantly became your “Mema” too. She and Jim volunteered for Hospice and spent many hours putting together flower arrangements and sending cards to families who had lost their loved ones. She enjoyed reading and anything that would keep her mind young and fruitful.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 5 siblings, John Clifford, Mary Louise, Charles Robert, Fred Eugene, and Billy Dean, and one great grandchild, Ryann Faith.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Davis and three children, Janet Fansler and husband Don, David Davis and wife Dana, and Rick Davis and wife Connie, all of Ponca City, OK. Also 6 grandchildren, Darrell Nolan of Mesa, AZ, Marcus Nolan and wife Christina of Pryor, OK, Chad Davis and wife Michelle of Ponca City, OK, Cassey Wooding and husband Brian of Edmond, OK, Daniel Davis and wife Rebecca of Tulsa, OK, and Angela Cales and Husband Jason of Bartlesville, OK.

She is also survived by 3 siblings, Helen Bandy and husband Larry of Rogers, AR, Velva McCullough, and Fern Silva and husband Paul, all of Wichita, KS

She loved all her grandbabies so much. Doris is survived by 10 great grandchildren, Kendal, Dylan, Peyton, Layne, Jakob, Aubri, Charleigh, Carter, Abigail and Sage, and 1 great-great grandchild, Benton.

She was a true angel here on earth. She lived the life of a Proverbs 31 woman. We know she is rejoicing with the angels in heaven.

Proverbs 31:25 “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”

Funeral services will not be held. The family will be holding a private celebration of life. In lieu of flowers and to celebrate Doris’ life, please send donations to Hospice of North Central OK.
