Charles Timothy (Big Tim) Shelton, 75, Ponca City Oklahoma, left to be with the Lord Sunday morning Dec. 27th, 2020. Surrounded by his loving family and after another devastating battle with cancer. The “rock of our family” has departed.

Born Christmas Day December 25th 1945 in Ponca City Oklahoma to James M. (Bill) Shelton and Frances (Hairgrove) Shelton. He attended school in Ponca where he graduated from Po-Hi in 1964. He met and married the love of his life Wanda Sanderfer in 1967. The following year they welcomed their first son Tim and then two short years later their second son Jim to the world. After a couple of years working in Kansas and Arizona they moved back to Ponca City for good. Tim was first employed at the Conoco Tank Yards before becoming a welder and then pressure tester for pipeline valves at Ponca Fabricators. He then took a job at Kay County District 1, working his way up to Foreman before eventually becoming First Deputy to the County Commissioner.

Tim was very active as an athlete, coach, referee and volunteer in local athletics for years. Few realized how athletic Tim actually was. He played varsity Football and was an outstanding wrestler. He also began playing Softball at an early age. He played for years in the men’s leagues in Ponca City and all over the country in tournaments. He was even selected as an Oklahoma Allstar. In his mid 50s he began playing in the senior leagues where he played until his late 60s.

Tim also had a passion for cars, specifically old Mopar and Hudson cars. His passion for Mopar began early when he used to revel in racing and beating the big muscle cars with his little Dodge Dart. In his car restoration phase he restored a Dodge Dart and a Hudson Country Club 8, both of which he enjoyed driving and showing in car shows all over the country. Most mornings he could be found talking cars and other things with close friends at Randy’s garage.

Tim was an avid outdoorsman. He hunted and fished his entire life. He took his boys hunting and fishing every year. He also went to Colorado yearly in the 70s and 80s with a group of friends to go Elk hunting, which was always a highlight of his year. After his boys grew up he continued to hunt and fish with a few select close friends, and annual hunting and/or fishing trips were the norm.

Tim was a proud member of Crestview Baptist Church where he has maintained the grounds and taken up Offerings since the 90s.

Tim was preceded in death by his older sister Nancy, brother Jim, father Bill, and mother Frances. He is survived by his wife Wanda and two sons Tim and wife Christine of Dietwil, Switzerland, and Jim and wife Cara of Ponca City, as well as brothers Bing, Ronnie, and Pat and sister Margaret all of Ponca City, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

A short outdoor memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2021 on the grounds of Crestview Baptist Church 3.5 miles east of the new river bridge. Please wear masks.

In lieu of Flowers the family requests a donation in his name to Humanity Hospice 1109 N. Bryant Ave., Ste 100 Edmond OK 73034, or any other accredited Hospice organization.
