Scientists in Japan have developed a drug that can regrow teeth, and they’re nearly ready to begin human trials. While conducting research on mice a few ago, the team discovered those rodents missing the gene needed to produce the protein USAG-1 would grow extra teeth.

Field Day for Ham Radio

The Kay County Amateur Radio Club (KCARC) held its annual “Summer Field Day” on June 24, 2023. This was the first time that the event was held at the VFW Post 1201, Building at 2821 East Prospect. There were four setups broadcasting using various modes from phone to CW (Morse Code) and digital. An unsuccessful attempt was made to connect to the International Space Station, but we were not set up in time to make contact. The setup for this event started at 10:00 am and the broadcast began at 12:00 noon and went until 5:30 pm when the equipment was disassembled and packed away. During the operation we made a total of 266 contacts all over the world.

Tonkawa Kids Community Garden is bursting with life

Over this past year, the City of Tonkawa has given their permission and a piece of land to a local nonprofit organization that was created to enhance local children’s knowledge and curiosity for gardening. In February of this year, the people with the Tonkawa Kids Community Garden began putting together and lining up everything they needed to prepare the lot for spring planting.

Pioneer Genealogical Society hosts Guthrie curator

A program on Oklahoma’s origin story was held during the Pioneer Genealogical Society’s meeting on Monday, July 10 at the Ponca City Library. The event’s speaker was Erin Brown, curator of OHS Collections at the Oklahoma Territorial Museum in Guthrie. Brown possesses a BA in history museum studies and a MFA in media design. She is a public speaker, writer, and creator of museum exhibits including one on Victorian etiquette, patent medicines, corsets, and Oklahoma African-American history.
