Brian Keith Whitaker, 27 years old, was pulled over and arrested on the anticipated charges of trafficking methamphetamine of 20 grams or more, a convicted felon carrying or possessing any firearm, a felon in possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, knowingly receiving any property that was stolen, embezzled or obtained by false pretense or robbery and receiving or concealing or engaging in transactions involving proceeds derived from violation of the Uniform Controlled Dangerous Substances Act. Whitaker also had a Kay County Warrant for an Application to Revoke and was initially pulled over and received a speeding violation ticket.

According to the affidavit, Cpl. Dana Wilson and Lt. Tucker Hodgson were on duty on Thursday, Sept. 17th, when they initiated surveillance on a known narcotics distribution location on the 900 block of north Ash St. They had information that Brian Whitaker was staying at the residence and had a known Kay County warrant for an application to revoke on a possession of a firearm after felony convictions of two or more.

The affidavit states that Lt. Hodgson observed Whitaker leave the residence and informed Officer Hopkins that he was headed eastbound in a maroon Chevy pickup. Officer Hopkins pulled him over for speeding at the corner of 5th St. and Williams Ave.

According to the affidavit, Officer Hopkins had Whitaker exit the vehicle and took him into custody without incident. The officer observed Whitaker attempting to hide something as he approached the vehicle. A search was performed on Whitaker’s person and located a large amount of cash and two marijuana buds in a black container.

Also, according to the affidavit, and upon search of the vehicle, Lt. Hodgson found several individual baggies of methamphetamine which totaled 38.9 grams and two semi-automatic 9 mm handguns under the center console. The guns had live rounds, but none in the pipe. A used meth pipe was also located behind the passenger seat of the vehicle and one of the guns was confirmed stolen out of Lincoln County.

Officer Hopkins transported Whitaker to Kay County Detention Center and the truck was impounded.

Brian Keith Whitaker is currently being held at the Kay County Jail on a $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Kay County District Court for an initial appearance on Oct. 2nd at 9 a.m.
