Wheeler Dealers Camping Club members enjoy visiting new places. For June members camped at Blue Bill campground at the north end of Fort Gibson Lake between Chouteau and Wagoner, OK. This fourth campout of the season was hosted by Charley and Vie Bottger, Ponca City and Mark and Annette Corbell, Owasso. Most campouts are held in

Most campouts are held in Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas or Missouri with two or more couples planning the location and campout activities which often include visiting area attractions, eating at a local restaurant, games and pot luck meals.

The June campout hosts started arriving Monday and by Wednesday seven rigs had pulled in and gathered together that evening to grill hamburgers and hot dogs. Meanwhile others pulled in Thursday and Friday setting up their campsite.

Thursday evening the group visited the Miller family Amish farm for a traditional Amish dinner served family style. Heaping platters of turkey and beef complimented by large bowls of mashed potatoes, green beans, cold slaw, rolls with apple butter, and dressing with gravy barely left room for dessert. However, members managed to consume a piece of either apple or banana cream pie.

Friday afternoon some of the men played cards while the women created their own crazy glasses with foam pieces decorating a foam pair of glasses attached to a plastic glasses frame generating lots of laughs. That evening the group feasted at JL’s Bar-B-Q in Pryor, known since 1976 for the “best barbecue money can buy in Green Country.” Some shared the two meat combo with generous servings which was more than enough food for two. That evening some of the members gathered in the campground pavilion for games of Pitch and Mexican Train.

Other activities in the Chouteau and Pryor area included visits to local antique stores and the various Amish owned businesses. The Chouteau rural area is home to the largest Amish community in Oklahoma and a variety of Amish owned restaurants, bakeries, furniture and other stores are located in town. The Amish Cheese House was on many Wheeler Dealers bucket list where we made selec tions from over 50 varieties of cheese, meats, 21 flavors of handmade fudge, baked goods, spices and more.

Saturday the group displayed their competitive skills with a men’s corn hole tournament and a women’s ring toss game. Winner of the corn hole tournament was Bill Lundeen and Vie Bottger won the ring toss game. That evening the group had the traditional campout pot luck supper with hamburgers, brauts and hot dogs provided by the campout hosts, the Bottgers and Corbells and various salads and desserts from the other members.

Sunday morning the June campout concluded with a pot luck breakfast (did we say Wheeler Dealers like to eat?) and business meeting.
