BLACKWELL — The Blackwell Police Department has released the following statement regarding recent water and sewer issues in the City of Blackwell:

“During summer months the demand for water rises due to increased consumption. To ensure that city water has the time to properly go through the water plant and have time for additives to clean it up, city management authorized running the plant for twenty-four hours a day rather than sixteen.”

“Currently the water is crystal clear in the plant and we expect within another day or two the water will clear up for all residents. We are aware of the smell and taste issues and began a plan last week to remedy these.”

“The City of Blackwell has “self-reported” all sewer line breaks to ODEQ as is required by law. At the last council meeting a report was given by the Water/Wastewater Superintendent regarding the numerous wastewater line breaks occurring all over Blackwell.”

“This message is to inform the residents that ODEQ was made aware of these issues immediately after they were found and we are complying with the direction given by ODEQ for a solution. Officials from ODEQ have been in Blackwell this week to investigate and continue to be involved until these issues are resolved.”

“If other line breaks need to be reported please call the Utility office at City Hall.”

The Blackwell City Hall phone number is (580) 363-7200.
