VFW Commander recognized as Oklahoma Veteran of the Year

Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Gary Miles was recently recognized as the Oklahoma Veteran of the Year by the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

The award was presented by Retired Navy Master Chief Larry Van Schuyver, Purple Heart Association State Commander, at their awards ceremony in El Reno, Oklahoma.

Miles received the award for his active involvement in veterans affairs as well as coordinating with the AMBUCS to furnish all State Veterans Homes with AmTryke Therapeutic tricycles.

Miles also serves as Commander of VFW Post 1201 in Ponca City and as Chairman of The Ponca City Veterans Day Parade Committee. “Serving on the Commission has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my Life”.

“It has been an honor to serve with extraordinary individuals who are dedicated to improving the quality of life for Oklahoma Veterans.”

The Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs has been recognized as Number One in the Nation for the level of care and support provided to disabled veterans. and the seven veteran’s homes in the State are consistently rated in the top ten Nationwide.

Miles represents the Oklahoma Veterans of Foreign Wars on the Commission. Search ODVA.gov to view the many opportunities and services available to Oklahoma Veterans.
