• Even with the entire district on Distance Learning and a short week due to the Thanksgiving Break, there were a total of 11 PCPS in-school positives. Two of the positives on Monday were contact traced from Friday’s attendance at school.

• The total number of inschool positive cases for the school year, both active and recovered, is 139. Fortyfour (44) close contacts have become positive cases.

• The COVID Alert System Risk Level increased this week from 85.5 - Red Level High Risk to 96.1 - Red Level High Risk. The latest data represents the 3rd week in a row Kay County has been in the Red Level High Risk Zone on the State Department of Education’s color-coded Risk Level Chart. The Red Level High Risk reflects an average of 50 or more new cases per day based on a 7-day rolling average per capita of 100,000. Based on the population of Kay County, the trigger to move into the Red Level is a weekly average of 21.77 new cases per day. These are alarmingly high rates and continue to impact the district even though we are in full Distance Learning.

• Even though we are participating in Distance Learning, please contact your child’s principal if they test positive or if they are a close contact. It is important we continue to collect data and know dates isolations and quarantines end to determine release dates and to collect district data.

• The BOE voted in a Special Meeting on 11.19 to move the entire district to Distance Learning for the remainder of the semester, November 23 - December 18, equating to 17 school days with 15 of those days remaining.

• Do your part to slow the spread by wearing face coverings, watching your distance, washing your hands, avoiding large group gatherings, staying home if experiencing symptoms, and staying in isolation or quarantined if imposed by the Kay County health Department. We all want our students back in school and activities to resume.

• Since moving to Distance Learning, we changed our feeding opportunities to 4 locations and there is no need to call in advance to order a meal. The serving locations are Garfield, PO-HI, Union, and West. Drive-through and walk-up meals are served from 11 am - 12:30 pm. All meals are free to children 1 - 18 years of age. Children do not have to be present, but adults must provide each child’s name.

• If you or your child are having tech issues while on Distance Learning, please refer to the PCPS Technology Hub at https://bit.ly/3kYUnjh. The Tech Hub can help you learn the basics of Chromebooks, learn how to use Google Classroom, or request Tech Support for a device. Please call the office of the site your child attends if you need further assistance.
