Local Husband and wife, Bill and Joan Valenta, haven’t been able to play Bridge with their usual group of friends since the COVID-19 pandemic, so Bill Valenta came up with the perfect idea of “Pie in the Park”.

The Valentas have a peach tree in their backyard which provides the most delicious, juicy peaches. They make many pies each summer and freeze them as well.

The group of friends all meet at Pioneer Park on the corner of Fifth and Highland Avenue and enjoy homemade pie together. What a breath of fresh air this is! It is also such a great way to still be social and safe at the same time.

“This was our first time meeting at the park and there are six of us who came and because of the virus we’ve had to stay home. We wanted to get together and be safe out in the open and I feel like the breeze helps to keep everyone safe. We are able to catch up on what each of us have been doing.” said Bill Valenta.

They all wear their masks (except when eating their pie of course) and practice social distancing while getting to catch up with their friends and have great conversations outdoors.
