PCPS is seeing improvement in percentages of individuals affected by COVID-19. Though this is a good sign, we will continue to remain vigilant, but we are hopeful we can return to more normalcy if these trends continue. The goal is to maintain in-person instruction while making safety a top priority.

During the inclement weather days, resulting in multiple Distance Learning Days, our COVID numbers were very minimal. We have completed 6 full days of inperson instruction since the winter storm and have maintained relatively low percentages of students/ staff affected. The weekly totals are outlined below.

• 2/22, 2/23/, & 2/25 - Zero in-school contact tracing investigations for 3 school days last week!

• 2/24 - One in-school contact tracing investigation at PO-HI affecting minimal students.

• 2/26 - One PO-HI contact tracing investigation resulted in several close contact quarantines, and 1 in-school positive at Washington PreK Center resulted in a classroom transition to Distance Learning for 10 days.

Total contact tracing investigations for the week of 2/22/21: 3

There are several more positive cases indicated on the chart, but these positives were not in-school positives, so no contact tracing investigations occurred. Many of the positives are family close contacts who became positive while on quarantine.

In addition to lower percentages of students affected, the COVID ALERT SYSTEM RISK LEVEL for Kay County has been significantly lower the last two weeks and these trends are typical for the entire state. The Kay County Risk Level for February 25, 2021 was 11.2 or YELLOW RISK LEVEL. The last time Kay County was in the Yellow Risk Level was September 3, 2020.

To keep trends moving in a postive direction, PCPS will continue with mitigation strategies to keep our students in school. These strategies include: wearing face coverings, watching distance, washing hands, avoiding large group gatherings, contact tracing, and requesting students stay home if experiencing symptoms. PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL IF THEY ARE EXPERIENCING SYMPTOMS OR IF SOMEONE IN THE HOUSEHOLD TEST POSITIVE.
