Tonkawa’s long time business Oxford Tire Shop LLC has changed ownership, from Margie and John Oxford to their niece and her husband, Gina and Chris LeMay. The Oxford families are three generations in Tonkawa and Mr. LeMay is a transplant from West Texas. When the Oxford’s decided to retire, after being in the business for 13 years, the LeMay family decided to sell their semi-truck and start the transition into taking over the business the end of 2020.
Joining the LeMay’s in the business are their son, Dylan Sharp, and Julie Oxford. Dylan works in the shop and Julie’s position is “accountant, bookkeeping, sheriff and HR” per the family’s impute. Mrs. LeMay’s position is front desk person, owner, office girl, the creative mind behind all the decorating and changes in the business during the transition to them.
When ask about the favorite part of the business, Mr. LeMay said, “I enjoy working on tires, helping the community and hearing their story about how their tires got messed up. Everybody has a story about how their tire did what it did! ‘After 26 years riding down the road on the tires, now I’m swapping ‘em.’”
Oxford Tire Shop carries tires for personal vehicles, 18 wheeler trucks, ATV’s, lawn mowers, farm implements, and construction equipment such as skid steers, track hoes and many more. They have on hand or one-day turnaround when needing to order special tires.
They have installed some updated shop equipment, such as a new MayFlower mount/dismount machine and a balancer, with there being a total of three tire machines and two balancers.
The LeMay’s are looking forward to expanding their business to be mobile, with a service truck in the future.
