An accident left one person dead and two more injured on Tuesday afternoon at 2:13 p.m. on US 177 near Harvest Road, approximately 3.45 miles southwest of Morrison.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Dennis R. Southern, 68, Pawnee, was southbound on US 177 in a 1997 Chevy truck. George A. Deweese Jr., 29, Ponca City, was stopped southbound by a Department of Transportation authorized flagman where the road was shut down to one lane. Southern struck the rear of Deweese’s vehicle, entered the northbound lane and was struck head on by a 2011 Cadillac Escalade, driven by Anita D. Casey, 36, Ponca City.

Southern was pinned for an unknown time and was extricated by the Stillwater Fire Department. He was pronounced dead at the scene by LifeNet Emergency Medical Services with head, trunk, internal and external injuries.

Deweese Jr. suffered trunk external and arm injuries but refused treatment at the scene. Casey was also injured with external arm and leg injuries and refused treatment on scene.

The cause of the collision is under investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Seatbelts were equipped in all vehicles and used by Deweese Jr. and Casey but not by Southern.

The fatality accident was investigated by Trooper Derek Fry #298 of the Payne/ Noble County Detachment of Troop K. Assisted by Lieutenant David Owen #178 of Troop S, Trooper Steven Warlick #499 of Troop YA, Trooper Brandon Harmon #506 of Troop YA, Trooper Tyler Langston #609 of the Kay/Noble County Detachment of Troop K, and Trooper Christopher s #832 of the Kay/Noble County Detachment of Troop K, Stillwater Fire Department, Morrison Fire Department, Noble County Sheriff Department, and LifeNet Emergency Medical Services.
