The Ponca City Kay County Chapter of the Oklahoma Second Amendment Association met at noon on Saturday, November 27, 2021. The meeting began with prayer by Pastor Jack Adams of New Hope Christian Fellowship and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Ken Luttrell.

Terry Thompson, Kay County OK2A Coordinator and Western Oklahoma Regional Director introduced Representative Ken Luttrell, District 37; Joshua Reil, U.S. LawShield representative; Scott Jessen, Garfield County OK2A Co-Coordinator; Brian Hobbs, Kay County GOP chairman.

Thompson told the members and public attending the meeting about the Sheriff Sale-Firearm Auction being held on Saturday, December 11 at 10:00 a.m. (site will be open for preview at 8:00 a.m.). The location for the sale is 402 N. 13th in Blackwell. Homer Nicholson will be the auctioneer with 300 plus guns in the auction of lost and found or confiscated guns.

Representative Ken Luttrell spoke to the group about the re-districting map with the 2020 Census numbers. He gave an update on his District 37, eastern Kay County and Osage County, with the numbers and locations of the population. His district initially lost about 4,000 in population. With the redistricting he now has areas and towns, like Pawhuska, with complete locations that are not broken up with 1566 square miles. Luttrell appreciated everyone who contacted his office with suggestions. His district was one of two that did not have to be re-districted to get to the number of 39,000 average in each district.

Thompson gave some descriptions for the meaning of the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program. According to Thompson, “SEL is defined with descriptions that are focusing more on student’s attitudes, mindsets, values and behaviors. Academics are not included in the description, reading, writing, and math. This is not how to educate a generation, it is how to doctrine a generation.” Thompson discussed information he has obtained pointing to areas in which the public education system are not adhering to standards of academic training. Kay County Public Schools school board election candidate filing period begins Monday, December 6 to Wednesday, December 8, 2021.

Brian Hobbs spoke about an upcoming OKGOP event, Boots & Bling, featuring OKGOP Chairman John Bennett. Guest speakers include U.S. Senate candidates, Frank Urbanic for OKC mayor, and Don Spencer, President of OK2A. The event will be held Friday, December 10, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. The location for the event is The Redneck Yacht Club, 4720 West I-40 Service Road in Oklahoma City.

The Kay County Chapter was presented a handmade quilt as a fundraising item by Sherry Jeffries of Tonkawa. The quilt will be at the Boots and Bling event as an auction or silent auction item. The next Kay County GOP meeting will be held Thursday, December 30, 2021, 7:00 pm. at Pioneer Technology Center.

Joshua Reil, a representative for U.S. LawShield and a school resource officer for the Piedmont Public School district, spoke to the group. “Don Spencer, the OK2A President, has requested a representative to be at all OK2A meetings to explain how U.S. LawShield is a form of protection for citizens,” said Reil. He explained the benefits of being a member.
