During this crucial time, New Emergency Resource Agency (NERA) continues to assist the community in areas such as meals to those in need and through their utility and rental assistance programs. In April alone, NERA provided enough food for more than 25,400 meals to those in need.

“In talking to and working with Tom Short, Executive Director of NERA, we were hopeful to open up like normal, but after guidance, found that this is not a possibility at this time. So, we will continue to serve clients fully, but with limited facility access to protect everyone,” said Erin Liberton, NERA Board President. As previously shared,

As previously shared, NERA is still actively searching for a new truck. Their search has been adjusted because they are now in the market for a truck that includes a refrigerated unit.

“By seeking this out, we are ahead of the curve as it is anticipated that future demands, guidance and policy will dictate that we have refrigerated units in our transport vehicle. This has made our search more challenging, but we are optimistic to find the right vehicle for NERA that will serve our organization for many years.”

NERA’s rent and utility assistance program is in full swing as well. The NERA team has been able to work out the logistics of everything with the modifications that had to take place due to COVID-19. They had to temporarily restrict this program early on, but it was important to them to get this program back as soon as possible and Liberton informed me that NERA was able to do this very quickly.

NERA has been relied upon heavily this year and they appreciate the help and contributions from staff, volunteers and donors. Families that have been affected by the pandemic have access to food and other services because of the generosity of our community. Their appreciation for those who have donated and supported their cause is significant. The donations make a difference and NERA expressed to me that they would like to thank the community for helping to continue to fulfill the mission for the short and long term goals, especially since they rely solely on donations and volunteers.

Donations can be made online at www.nera-frc. org, through NERA’s facebook page or by mailing it to NERA directly at 112 S. 1st St. Ponca City, OK 74601. They may also be contacted by phone at 580-765-5372.
