A multimedia musical production is coming soon to the historic Poncan Theatre.

“Pioneer Women” is set to provide a historical representation, through stories and music, of the 12 statues that E.W. Marland commissioned in the 1920s to honor the pioneer women that shaped America. Replicas of the 12 Pioneer Women statues were unveiled back in 2010 at the Marland Mansion thanks to Carl and Carolyn Renfro.

This show is to cap the 90th anniversary of the unveiling of the Pioneer Woman Statute and is a major project in celebration of the Ponca City Federated Music Club’s 100th anniversary.

The Club has received endorsement by the Pioneer Woman Museum, the City of Ponca City, the National Parks Department/Department of the Interior, the Ponca Playhouse, the Ponca City Theatre Troupe, the 101 Ranch Old Timers and other Ponca City Marland entities.

Script and music for “Pioneer Women” were written by Debra Harden Rue. The Oklahoma Kid Trick Roper will be performing along with local music talent Prairie Fire, and the show will be directed by Cara Kem Cassens.

Auditions for the show will be held on Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. and on Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. at the South entrance of City Central at 400 E. Central Ave., Ponca City. Those wishing to audition must bring 16 bars of music in their key and a short monologue/story or poem. Audition sign up is on Facebook under Pioneer Women - Pioneer Women Production Auditions.

“Pioneer Women” will be performed at the Poncan Theatre April 23, 24 and 25. All proceeds will spill over to the Poncan Theatre and to the education of the Poncan’s history.
