Tulsa mystery author Mary Coley will be at Brace Books and More in Ponca City on Saturday June 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a book signing to introduce her latest mystery, Blood on the Mother Road: No Place to Hide.

Book 2 in Coley’s Oklahoma Mystery Series, this mystery features Claire Northcutt, a Stillwater journalist who first appeared in Coley’s Blood on the Cimarron: No Motive for Murder (2017). Northcutt goes to Persimmon, a fictional town on Route 66 near Tulsa, to write about life on the famous Mother Road.

In Persimmon, she meets Rhonda, a waitress in Tiny’s Route 66 Diner. Rhonda is actually Renee, an Austin veterinarian hiding in the Witness Protection Program under the watchful eyes of Holt Braden, the DEA agent who is also Claire’s boyfriend.

The two women unknowingly irk criminals in Persimmon and place targets on their backs.

In 2018, Coley’s mystery, Blood on the Cimarron won the prestigious Tony Hillerman Award given by New Mexico/Arizona books. She has twice been named a finalist in the Oklahoma Book Awards, and was named a finalist in the selective Silver Falchion Awards of Killer Nashville International Mystery Convention.

An Oklahoma native, Coley released her first mystery, Cobwebs: A Suspense Novel, in 2013. The first book in the Family Secret Series, Cobwebs is set in Pawhuska, OK, and focuses on a woman as she learns her hidden family history and discovers ties to the tragic Osage Indian Murders. The story of these murders has since been detailed in the nonfiction book and soon-to-be movie, Killers of the Flower Moon.

Coley, a former Ponca City resident, worked for the Ponca City News from 1986-1990 and for St. Joseph Regional Medical Center as the Public Relations Director from 1990-1993 before moving to Tulsa.
