The Kay County Board of Commissioners’ regular meeting was held Monday, March 1, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. Present were county commissioners Jack Godberson and John Wilson, Kay County Clerk and Secretary Tammy Reese, and District Attorney Brian Hermanson. Commissioner Jason Shanks was absent.

To update the commissioners Mrs. Kim Shanks spoke for the Kay County Amphitheater group of volunteers on agenda item five: consideration, discussion and possible action to finalize Amphitheater plans, building location, executive agreement, and obtain permission from the BOCC allowing the Amphitheater Committee to move forward with this project. Shanks submitted the final plans with pictures of the location, proposed structure, and materials. The proposed timeline is a final fundraising campaign in March, and in April enter into a contract with Rick Scott Construction to purchase the RCP structure and construct. Proposed date the county will take possession of the location is by September and have a ribbon cutting celebration during Charlie Adams Day.

Reports were given by the two commissioners of road projects and maintenance in their districts, including a safety meeting. Three items on the agenda were tabled due to all three commissioners not being present.

District Attorney, Brian Hermanson introduced the Classical Conversations group of 8th and 9th graders attending the commissioners meeting. They were observing county government at the court house and taking a tour of the county jail. The Classical Conversations is a homeschooling group that meets locally. They share the love of learning through a Christian worldview of fellowship with other families.

The Kay County Board of County Commissioners meeting is held each Monday of the month at the Kay County Courthouse in the Commissioners Court on the first floor of the courthouse at 9:00 a.m. Masks are encouraged and social distancing is suggested at all meetings.
