The Northern Oklahoma Humane Society will host the first “You’re in the Dog House” building competition and fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Marland Mansion at 7 p.m.

This event brings shoppers, builders and pet lovers together to raise awareness for homeless pets in the area. Its purpose is to help these animals find their forever families.

This event was named and timed perfectly to be the day after Valentine’s Day so those who made a mistake on this day are truly “In the Dog House.”

Several teams throughout Ponca City have been working for weeks, if not months, to put together what they think is the ultimate dog house. The dog houses will be judged on design, creativity and construction quality by people attending the event and a jury panel. The contestants will receive various awards. All proceeds from the auction will go to the Northern Oklahoma Humane Society.

The competition and auction serves to foster relationships between different groups of people and provide corporate team building activities designed to build relationships through memorable experiences, all the while raising awareness and support for the NOKHS. Their mission is “Connecting Animals In Need With People Who Care.”

The prizes “Top Dog” and “People’s Choice” will be given to the dog house or cat condo that received the most bids, along with a creativity award.

At the event the public can get involved in the competition by playing carnival games to win tickets to put towards their favorite dog house’s total. The bands Morrison 33 and Band #9 will both be playing music at the fundraiser and Cheeky Burger and Free Range Kitchen will be parked outside serving up food and beverages.

Some of the teams include, but are not limited to, the following:

Kay County Detention Center and the “Jail House Rock” Team

Adam Leaming and his dad “The Leaming Rin Tin Renovators”

Custom Mechanical Equipment “We’re The Cool Kids”

Ponca City Chamber Tourism and Pioneer Technology Center “Ponca Awesome Team”

Winterrowd Talley Architects and the “What The Barkitects” Team

Ponca City Police and the “Five-O” Team

Tickets are $30 and they can be purchased at the Northern Oklahoma Humane Society at 900 W. Prospect Ave. from any board member, the Ponca City Chamber or you can email apeitz@cmemultizone.com to arrange tickets to be delivered to you. Tickets may also be purchased at the Marland Mansion at 7 p.m. when the event begins.
