Ponca City’s Splash Pads are now open! Ponca City has five splash pads at the following locations: • War Memorial Park – 706 N.

5K COLOR BLAST FUN RUN

• Join us for the Second Annual 5K Color Blast Fun Run at the RecPlex! Gather your family, friends or coworkers and experience the sunshine and springtime weather through 5 various color stages. In order to ensure a shirt, enrollment must be completed by April 23.

• The 5K Color Blast Fun Run will be on Saturday, May 7, at 9:00 a.m. at the RecPlex Outdoor Walking Track.

• Color Blast Fun Run is for all ages, and the cost is $15.00.

KIDS NIGHT OUT

• The RecPlex will offer a night out for kids without parents! Kids will get to play organized games, use the climbing wall, watch a movie, eat snacks and have loads of fun! All kids will be supervised by RecPlex staff.

• Saturday, May 7, 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with check-in starting at 5:00 p.m.

• For ages 2 to 12 years. The cost is $35.00. Sibling discount $25.00.

RED CROSS LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION

• Learn how to effectively prevent and respond to water emergencies with the American Red Cross lifeguard training. This course designed to arm you with the skills and knowledge to prepare you for a variety of scenarios in and around the water. With this lifeguard training, you will learn how quick response times and effective preparation are vital to being a lifeguard while also understanding the crucial elements in helping to prevent drownings and injuries.

• Class dates: May 7 & 8 (register thru May 4) or May 21 & 22 (register thru May 18).

• These are 2-day classes on Saturday and Sunday and meet from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. each day.

• For ages 15 and up. The cost is $150.00 per participant.

SAFESITTER BABYSITTING ESSENTIALS

• Safesitter Babysitting Essentials in the RecPlex Art Studio is designed to prepare students to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings or babysitting. This instructor-led class is filled with fun games and role-playing exercises.

• This is a two-day class on May 20 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and May 21 from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

• For 6th thru 8th grade age participants. The cost is $75.00 per participant. Member discount $20.00.

YOUTH SKATE CAMP

• The Parks and Recration will be hosting a youth skate camp for youth interest in learning how to skate. The instructor led camp will teach the techniques and skills fundamental to making a great skater. Those who need the necessary gear, boards, pads and helmets will be provided.

• The camp is on Tuesdays, May 24 thru June 14, from 6:00-7:00 p.m., at the Dan Moran Skate Park.

POTTERY FOR ADULTS • In collaboration with the

• In collaboration with the Pottery Place, the RecPlex is pleased to offer this fun pottery on the wheel class! We will spend time learning the fundamentals of throwing on the wheel (more advanced projects will be encouraged based on prior learning). Each student will make between 6-12 hand thrown pieces during this class.

• This class will be a 4 week class and will meet on Fridays, June 3, 10, 17, and 24, from 1:00-3:00 p.m., at the Doodle Academy, 103 E. Grand Ave.

ADULT TENNIS LESSONS

• Coach Lynne Collenback will be holding small group adult tennis lessons. The once weekly session will help anyone, no matter their skill level.

• These 2 hour classes are on Tuesdays, June 14, 21, 28 and July 12, 19, 26 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Wally Smith Tennis Center, 706 N. 7th Street.

FREE YOUTH FISHING CLINIC

• Ponca City Parks and Recreation is partnering with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife to host a FREE fishing clinic for youth. Learn the tricks of baiting hooks, making perfect casts and how to reel in the “big ones”.

• This clinic is on Tuesday, June 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on the Marland Mansion grounds.

• For ages 5-12 years old. All youth who are interested in attending must pre-register.

KAYAK LESSONS

• Do you want to learn the fundamentals of kayaking? These beginner lessons will teach you important safety practices, identify the different types of equipment, the basic strokes and techniques that are fundamental to all types of kayaking.

PONCA CITY SENIOR CENTER TO TEMPORARILY RELOCATE DURING

Building renovations at the Ponca City Senior Center will soon be underway.

Until renovations are completed, the Ponca City Senior Center will temporarily relocate to the First Presbyterian Church, located at 1505 E. Grand Avenue, as of Monday, May 23.

In order to prepare for the relocation, Ponca City Senior Center hours will be adjusted the week of Monday, May 16 thru Friday, May 20. The Senior Center will only be open from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Lunch will be served as usual, but there will be NO activities that week.

The goal is to continue to offer all of the services and activities as usual at the temporary location. However, there will be some changes, such as making Senior Diner reservations by noon the day before dining.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while these improvements are being made.

MCCORD SENIOR CITIZEN CENTER SELLING FLOWERS FOR MEMORIAL DAY

The McCord Senior Citizen Center is once again selling memorial flowers for Memorial Day beginning on May 9 from 10:30 am to 1 pm, Monday thru Friday until May 27.

Available at the Center are wreaths, basket arrange ments, and bouquets. Prices vary from $1.50 to $10. This is a major fundraiser

This is a major fundraiser for the Center with proceeds benefiting the Center’s maintenance lunch.

McCord Senior Citizen Center is located at 115 E. Mary Road, just south of Highway 60 in the Osage. South of the casino and one block west of City View.
